Notre Dame vs. Army: Fighting Irish Dominate in Blowout, Eye College Football Playoff Spot

Notre Dame’s huge 49-14 win over No. 19 Army has put them in a strong spot for the College Football Playoff. This victory marks their 16th straight win against the Black Knights, the longest streak in the history of this rivalry. It’s also the second time this season they’ve beaten a ranked team by at least 30 points.

The game was never really close. Notre Dame’s defense forced Army into two quick three-and-outs, turning them into a 14-0 lead early. Army fought back with a touchdown in the second quarter, cutting the lead to seven, but Notre Dame quickly pulled away. In the second half, four of Army’s five drives ended in turnovers, including three failed fourth-down tries. Army scored again with less than a minute left, but it was far too late.

Notre Dame dominated on the ground, rushing for 275 yards and five touchdowns, averaging an incredible 9.8 yards per carry. Running back Jeremiyah Love led the charge, racking up 130 yards and two touchdowns on just seven carries.

With key teams like No. 8 Ole Miss losing this week, Notre Dame’s playoff chances look better than ever. They finish the regular season on Nov. 30 against USC, a game that could give them 11 wins for the first time under coach Marcus Freeman.

This season has been full of records for the Irish. It’s the first time they’ve scored 49 points in back-to-back games against ranked teams. They’ve also won six straight games against ranked opponents for the first time since 1992-93 and eight straight neutral-site games. Against Army and Navy this year, they outscored their opponents 100-28.

With momentum on their side, Notre Dame looks ready to make a serious run in the playoffs. Their mix of strong offense and tough defense makes them a team to watch heading into the postseason.
